I was raised on the Eastside of Detroit, a city that shaped my resilience, creativity, and drive. Ironically, I’m a mathematician by degree and trade — but words have always been my first love. Not just on the page, but spoken from my mouth with rhythm and power.  Since childhood, I’ve had a gift for poetry and memory. I can still recite raps I wrote in kindergarten, pieces I performed in elementary school, and even the entire “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.” poem. Something about the way a rhyme scheme rolls off the tongue has always empowered me.

I never imagined that my words would give life to so many people, but God had other plans. Today, I stand firmly in my purpose as a wife, a mother, a woman of God, and an educator by day — while always being a lover of the spoken word. From leading professional development sessions to hosting nonprofit events to performing for thousands, I’ve been blessed to use my voice in spaces both intimate and grand.When I step onto a stage, God gives me a strength I can’t explain, and the impact I leave behind is not my own, but all His.
